Where to go: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Share

For many, carsharing is a way to run errands and get around the city when walking, biking and busing isn’t practical. This is our bread and butter, but carsharing can be also used to hit the road and explore! That’s why we’ve created a new feature called “Where To Go”, where staff and members explore Manitoba (and beyond).

This month, one of our newest members decided to take a Peg City Car all the way down to Minneapolis!

“I decided to join Peg City Car Co-op because I have an old car that I don’t trust to take on the road outside of Winnipeg. I was thinking of renting a car but figured it might be time to join the Co-op and give it a try.

I was surprised to find that their rates were competitive with car rentals. While it was a bit more expensive, I appreciate the flexibility of carsharing. It’s nice being able to pick up a car when you like and not have to commit to keeping it for longer than you need. There’s the added bonus that all of Peg City’s cars come with winter tires, which was comforting while driving on winter roads.

So I was sold, and decided to go down to Minneapolis with the carshare. We hit the road early in the morning and enjoyed the heated front seats. Before getting to the border we stopped to enjoy the sunrise and some wind turbines!

While Minneapolis temperatures have nothing on Cuba, it was fun to get out of the city for the long weekend and Minneapolis has so much to offer. We went down for a concert, but ended up seeing a film festival, enjoyed the amazing food and micro-brew scene. It’s true what they say: Minneapolis is the new Portland!

The city is really nice with great bike paths and walking. We particularly enjoyed the river front park and walkway and the old stone bridge.

While we were in the area we noticed an old flour mill that had exploded decades ago and was now a museum! Sadly it was closed, but now it’s in our to-do list for next time!

We honestly couldn’t believe how much Minneapolis has to offer and will be making a trip back soon.

Overall, we had a great time and we’re glad that we took a Peg City car. We will definitely be doing more road trips with the carshare. Even if we keep our own car for a little longer, it’s nice to have access to a back up car, as well as trucks and vans. And when the time comes to retire my old car, we will be ready to fully take advantage of Peg City Car Co-op!

If you are interested in sharing your carsharing adventures, let us know and we’d be happy to feature you on our next “Where To Go” post!
