This month’s topic: Transporting Pets!

We allow our Members to bring their pets along for the ride, provided they are in a carrier. If they’re too big to fit in a carrier, they must be transported in the cargo area of the vehicle, with a protective barrier  – like a tarp, blanket, or towel – in between them and the upholstery. We also encourage pet owners to bring a brush or a sticky lint roller with them to make sure that no hair is left behind.

If you’re hauling potted flowers for your garden, bringing toys back from the beach, or coming home from the park with your tuckered-out puppy, the vehicle is going to need more than just a quick tidy. Members should book extra time to stop in at a detailing centre, do a thorough vacuuming (don’t forget to fill out the log book and staple the receipt to it!) and Peg City will reimburse the account in the form of driving credit.

We want carsharing to be a clean, enjoyable experience for everyone – thank you!

Good Read: All aboard! Assiniboine Park’s mini steam train is back on track

Share

Some light (miniature) transportation news to take you into the weekend!

“The miniature steam train that had been out of commission at Assiniboine Park is rolling again.

Tim Buzunis, owner and operator of the popular Winnipeg tourist attraction, credits a company in the United States with looking through the original blueprint of the train that has run loops next to the zoo for 54 years.

But he’s happy to have his train back, which he says matters to the many passengers he’s met since taking ownership of the family-run business in 1988.”

“I know the train is loved by a lot of people,” he said. “I’ve had as many as four, five generations [of some families] ride this train.”

“I do run it with love and a lot of respect for my father, who started it,” he said.”

Peg City Car Co-op + Bike Valet Winnipeg

Share

Meet one of Peg City Car Co-op’s wonderful partners: Bicycle Valet Winnipeg!

(Pictured: Stephanie from Bicycle Valet Winnipeg keeping those steel horses calm!)

Bicycle Valet Winnipeg’s aim is to work with event promoters to offer a Bicycle Valet at events to reduce traffic and parking congestion and encourage Active Transportation use in Winnipeg. Having a safe place to park their “wheels” will encourage people to choose an active lifestyle and increase the use of Winnipeg’s growing Active Transportation infrastructure.

During the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Bicycle Valet parked 824 bikes, trailers, and more! Peg City Car Co-op is so pleased to partner with a fabulous, free initiative like this. They will be available to park your V.I.B’s (that’s Very Important Bikes, obviously) at these summer events:

July 15th Jubilation Festival @ Saint Boniface Cathedral
July 27th Downtown Winnipeg Night Market
July 28th Folklorama Kick-Off Event @ Assiniboine Park
July 31st Moveable Feast
August 14th Moveable Feast
August 31st Downtown Winnipeg Night Market
September 7-9 ManyFest – All Together Downtown
September 29th Nuit Blanche Moveable Feast

You’re the best, Bicycle Valet Winnipeg!

Re:Member – Running late

Re:Member is a series of helpful tips and reminders for Peg City Car Co-op members.

This month’s topic: Running Late!

You booked a car for two hours, which would have been plenty of time … but now you’re stuck at a train crossing. Or there’s construction. Or your meeting ran long. It happens to all of us!

If you know that you won’t be able to return the car on time, log into your account, and as long as there isn’t another booking right after yours, you can add time to your existing booking in 15 minute increments. Can’t log in from your smart phone or computer? Give us a call, and we can extend the booking for you.

Adding time to your existing booking is always cheaper than incurring a $20 late return fee. What happens if you can’t extend the booking? Be courteous and give us a call. We can reach out to the next Member and let them know when the vehicle will be returned for them – it’s that kind of  communication that makes carsharing a positive, reliable experience for our 1000+ Members.

( … and we have to say, our Members are pretty great! If you’re thinking about joining Peg City Car Co-op, you can find information about our plans and vehicle locations HERE.)

Re:Member – Multi-day bookings

Re:Member is a series of helpful tips and reminders for Peg City Car Co-op members (and future members, too!)

This month’s topic: Multi-day Bookings!

Did you know that Members benefit from free hours between midnight + 7AM, as well as a daily rate cap of 8 hours? If you book for 10 hours, you only pay for 8. That means Members pay a maximum hourly rate of $38/day, and Member Plus drivers pay just $22/day.

Take a day trip out to Bird’s Hill Provincial Park for as little as $39!

We offer the convenience of a car rental, with none of the hassle. Once you join as a Member and have your key fob in hand, you make your own bookings online, at the pick-up and drop-off times that suit your schedule.

If you’re looking for a way to get out of the city for the afternoon, or maybe for a few days – members can make multi-day bookings, for up to two weeks at a time! – we’ve got a set of wheels for you. Looking to drive further? Our per kilometre rate drops from $0.34/km to $0.17 after the first 50 kilometres. Try using our Trip Calculator to find the rate that fits your needs.

Happy 7th Birthday, Peg City Car Co-op!

Share

In June, we are celebrating seven years of carsharing in Winnipeg!

We are closing in on 1000 members, and we would love nothing more than to hit that goal just in time for our birthday. As a fun incentive, we will give a $75 driving credit to any existing member that refers someone new to the co-op! They can join our program as a Casual or full Member, and they will ALSO receive a $75 driving credit. Additionally, BOTH drivers will be entered to win a prize of a $100 driving credit.

For new members, use the promo code BIRTHDAY75 when registering, and then let us know who referred you to Peg City. Don’t have any friends that carshare with us? That’s okay! We’ll give you the driving credit anyways – consider it a party favour!
